Chella

June 9, 2015

"First, thank you for contacting us and for being a well-informed consumer.  Our products are not tested on animals in any stage of production nor do we hire any third party to do so.  We are independently owned and have never made any practice of testing on animals.  We sell our products coast-to-coast and have a few international distributors located in the UK and Canada.  We do offer a vegan friendly option – our mascara."

They themselves don't test on animals, but they haven't mentioned their suppliers. I requested clarification.

UPDATE:

June 10, 2015

"We do not test on animals.  For a list of our ingredients, please go to our website www.chella.com and “click” on any product that is of interest to you.  Once you open a new window, below “Add to Cart” there is list of selections to choose from.  You would want to click on “Ingredients” and you will see the FULL list for that product."

They still haven't mentioned their suppliers, even though I specifically asked for that in my clarification e-mail. I asked them again, and have yet to receive a response. I will update once they do, but grey area for now.

Pandora's Make-up Box

June 10, 2015

"No Animal Testing is done for our company nor any third party filling it is prohibited in Canada and yes we do have Vegan products especially for Lipstick and Lip Gloss formulas."

This response wasn't clear so I requested verification.

UPDATE:

June 12, 2015

"1) Does your company test your products on animals on any stage of production? No
2) Are any ingredients tested on animals? No
3) Do you require verification from your suppliers that they don’t test on animals? Yes
4) Are you sold in China? No"

Based on their responses I believe them to be cruelty-free, although I'm still not sure about vegan/vegetarian products.

Antipodes

June 10, 2015

"I can confirm that Antipodes product range is free from Animal testing.  All Antipodes products are Vegetarian Society Approved. We never test our skincare on animals, and there's no cross-contamination during the production process. All our products are free from any animal ingredient resulting from slaughter, and free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We don’t use any animal by-products except honey, which is accepted and eaten by vegetarians because honeybees must make honey to live.
If you would like further information regarding our Vegetarian Certification please visit the following link to our website: http://www.antipodesnature.com/vegetarianapproved.html

We are also part of SAFE however this is yet to come through on our marketing items and packaging.  We believe this is sufficient and are satisfied with our choices.

China's currently regulations on animal testing for beauty products have meant we have made a conscious decision not to go into this market through the retail brick and mortar channel.  Currently online sales into China fall outside the animal testing requirements.

You can be assured Antipodes products have never been tested on animals.

Once again thank you for contacting Antipodes."

I wasn't clear about their ingredients, so I requested verification.

UPDATE:

June 14, 2015

"As per previous email, I can confirm that Antipodes product range is free from Animal testing.  All Antipodes products are Vegetarian Society Approved. We never test our skincare on animals, and there's no cross-contamination during the production process.

The ingredients are not tested on animals and our raw, natural ingredients are not tested on animals.

For more information about the Vegetarian Society UK, please visit https://www.vegsoc.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=650"

I'm not sure how I feel about this company. Looks like they're cruelty-free, although they haven't explicitly mentioned that they require verification from their suppliers. Vegetarian Society UK requires all their products to be free of animal testing.

Goddess Garden Organics

June 10, 2015

"You’ll be glad to learn that Goddess Garden’s Sunscreens are indeed vegan. No animal products are used in our formulas, and all products are cruelty free as well. You can read more about our ingredients here: http://www.goddessgarden.com/pages/our-ingredients
We manufacture our own product, and are not owned by another company.
Our distribution is currently limited for the most part to the US and Canada, with some sales in Europe. We do not sell or distribute in China where animal testing is required."
Generic response about vegan products, not really talking about their animal testing policy. Requested clarification.

UPDATE:
June 12, 2015
"No, we do not test on animals, nor do we hire a third party to test on animals.
No, none of our ingredients are tested on animals.
We don't believe that any of our suppliers test on animals, but we don't require verification that our suppliers don't test.
We are required to test the water resistance claims and SPF ratings by the FDA. These tests are done via a third party, but not on animals (SPF and water resistance tests are done on people)."
Based on this response, I can't consider this company cruelty-free, since they don't require verification from their suppliers.

VB Cosmetics

July 18, 2015

The brand itself doesn't test on animals. Unclear about their manufacturers and suppliers. I requested clarification and will update once they reply.

Their Dazzle Dry line is vegan.

Medusa's Make-up

July 19, 2015

The company themselves doesn't test on animals, but they haven't answered whether they require verification from their suppliers and manufacturers. I requested clarification and will update once they reply.

routine.

The brand answered all of my questions thoroughly. I believe them to be cruelty-free. They were also recently certified by Logical Harmony as cruelty-free. They use beeswax in some of their products, but they also have a vegan line.
